The Date Difference Calculator finds the exact number of years, months, days, and total weeks between any two dates. It works for past, present, or future dates and automatically handles the shorter result for reversed date order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this handle leap years?

Yes. The calculator uses the real calendar, so February 29 in leap years is counted accurately in the total days figure.

What’s the difference between “total days” and the years/months/days breakdown?

Total days is the raw count of calendar days. The breakdown counts complete calendar units โ€” for example, the span from January 31 to March 1 is 1 month and 1 day (or 2 days in a leap year), not exactly 1 month.

How it works

The calculator finds the absolute difference between two dates. It then performs calendar arithmetic: count complete years first, then complete months, then remaining days. Total days is calculated by dividing the millisecond difference by the number of milliseconds in a day.

Formula

Total Days = (End โˆ’ Start) / 86,400,000 ms. Breakdown: count complete years, then months, then days using calendar arithmetic.
